"Stick solos" are improvisations that explore and develop the various sounds and timbres of a new instrument. Scrapping the original design of a mouth bow, I strung my old violin string to a curved stick and built a simple contact mic to attach to the metal screw. Bells are tied to the base for extra jangle. The stick can be plucked or bowed and the pitch can be altered either by bending the stick or fingering the string.
